World Afro Day event was a truly inspirational and empowering experience. The evening focuses on celebrating and embracing our kinky/coily hair. Founder - Michelle DeLeon
All of the guest speakers that were present on the day each had a powerful message to say. The following speakers really spoke out to us: . Angela Onwuachi-Willig a US professor spoke about the hair policy's women of colour face in the workplace and during school. As well as the psychological burden of how our hair should look. . Trina Jones another US professor spoke about skin colour and the difference between race and colour. The issues faced with skin lightening internationally were also discussed. . Vernon Francois was amazing. He spoke about he's experiences as a dyslexic gay black man, that has a ginger afro and freckles. He really embraces both men and women and pays great attention when wording textures and hair types. He played an emotional and motivational short film that showed 4 stunning girls learning to love and embrace their natural hair. He also has he's own hair care brand! And has designed he's own hair texture alphabet.
Miss USA, Deshauna Barber also spoke women of colour in regards to military acceptance with natural hair.
Another great event, can't wait for the next one!
